Mike Cope Racing Brings 6 to Mid-Ohio

Clearwater, FL [June 19, 2024]— After a roller coaster of events at PITT Race, the Mike Cope Racing team is ready to recoup better results as the Trans Am TA2 series heads to Mid Ohio Sports Car Course… results the team would like to be neither “mid” or “Ohio” (Your 8th grader will understand the references).

MCR is back with a full banner of race cars including Thomas Merrill, Keith Prociuk, Ty Young, Tom Sheehan, Jim Gallaugher and Matt Tifft.

Merrill fell to third in the national tour points race following a disappointing PITT race finish and is eager to get back on track for a bit of redemption at a course that has treated him well in the past.

Prociuk fell to second in the Pro Am points championship race after missing PITT. Keep an eye on Prociuk to bring the #9 HP Tuners Mustang through the field and fight for a Pro Am podium.

Jim Gallaugher and Tom Sheehan are also top contenders in the Pro Am division. Both drivers are coming off of podium finishes at PITT. The goal for Mid Ohio is a complete MCR/ Cope Race Car podium sweep.

Ty Young has been busy with life outside of racing, missing the last 3 events, but he’s ready to strap back into his #22 Ty J. Young Wealth Management Cope Race Car for the second half of the season.

Matt Tifft rounds out the 6 car team as he returns to Mike Cope Racing for the first time since 2018.

“I’m so excited to hop back into a TA2 car this weekend with Mike Cope Racing,”said Tifft. “Living just an hour north of Mid-Ohio makes it a special race, on top of the fact that it is my first return to the series since 2018.”

Tifft and team owner, Mike Cope have built a relationship that dates back to late model circle track racing. It’s the relationship from back then that steered Tifft to the MCR Arrive and Drive program.

“Mike and I go way back to late model days parked at New Smyrna Speedway next to each other,” explained Tifft. “We last finished 2nd and set a track record at the time at Road America. Mike has always prepared great cars and always takes care of his drivers, so I’m pumped to join the team again for a couple races this year.”

Mike Cope had the same sentiment when talking about Tifft reuniting with the team.

“I am sincerely happy to have Matt back with us for a few races this season,” said Cope. “We came so close to winning Road America in 2018 and can’t wait to build off of that. Our sights are on a solid run for Tifft, PB B’laster and the Mike Cope Racing team.”

Tifft will trade his usual PB B’laster #57 for the #52, but the livery remains the same.

“PB B’laster is sponsoring the car,” explained Tifft. “They have been awesome partners and are based out of nearby Valley View, Ohio, so I’m looking forward to getting them back on the podium again this year!”

The Mid-Ohio race weekend kicks off with two rounds of test sessions on Thursday, June 20th. Practice and Qualifying fill Friday’s schedule. The main event is set to take the green flag on Saturday, June 22nd at 12:40pm Centralfor 45 laps of TA2 racing.
